PRESS CONFERENCE Announced for the 13th Annual “HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS SHOWDOWN”

CHICAGO --- The Integrity Group announced today that the Press Conference for its 13th Annual “High School Hoops Showdown” will start promptly at 4:30 p.m., next Tuesday, January 19, 2010, and be held at the Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria in Schaumburg, IL (SE corner of Roselle and Schaumburg Rds.). Contact them at 847-985-1525, if you have questions, or need directions.

This year’s format for the Triple-Header event remains the same, with Game 2 featuring a “rivals” match-up (i.e… an actual Conference game). Expected in attendance, to answer questions and discuss Game 2, will be Head Coach Nathan Drye (Aurora-Central Catholic) and Joey Guth (Sr., G). Aurora-Marmion Academy Head Coach Rashon Burno, along with his star player, Mark Peters (Sr., F), will be there to represent the competition.

Discussing Game 1 will be Head Coach Scott Miller of Lombard-Glenbard East, and Zach Miller (Jr., G). Their opposition will be represented in the person of Algonquin-Jacobs Head Coach Jim Hinkle, a recent inductee into the Illinois Coaches Association Hall of Fame, along with Sean Meyer (Sr., F).

Game 3 opponents Neuqua Valley and West Aurora are represented, respectively, by Head Coach Todd Sutton, who notched his 400th coaching victory earlier this season, and Dwayne Evans (Sr., F - St. Louis University), along with Head Coach Gordon Kerkman, and Juwan Starks (So., F). Refreshments will be served.

The event, which has averaged close to 5,000 fans, returns to the Sears Centre Arena, in Hoffman Estates, and will be played on Saturday, January 23, 2010. It will feature the Top-2 teams (#1 Glenbard East, and #2 Neuqua Valley) in the Daily Herald Boys Basketball Top-10 (within their circulation area).

In Game 1 (4:30 p.m.), it's the “Rams” (13-1) from Lombard-Glenbard East, going up against the “Golden Eagles” (3-10) from Algonquin-Jacobs. Glenbard East, ranked #7 in the AP Poll, and winners of the 35th Annual Elgin Holiday Tournament, are led by Zach Miller, their all-purpose Guard. Jacobs, the winningest Class 4A program in Illinois over the last three years, is off to an uncharacteristic and disappointing start. They’re led by Sean Meyer, 6’1” Forward. No doubt the Golden Eagles will be eager to show that their record is not indicative of the quality of their team.

Game 2 (6:30 p.m.) features one of the most emotional and competitive rivalries in the state, as Aurora-Central Catholic (9-5) takes on arch-rival Marmion Academy (9-6). The two Aurora schools will be meeting for the 68th time, with ACC holding a 34-33 edge in the series. Over that span, they have had six overtime games, with three of those going into double-overtime. The “Chargers” are led by Joey Guth, Sr. G, who scores in bunches and has already hit for 41 pts. in one game. The “Cadets” are ready to meet the challenge and feature Mark Peters, their do-everything Sr. F.

Finally, in Game 3 (8:30), you’ll see the AP’s #12 rated team, Naperville-Neuqua Valley, taking on traditional power West Aurora. The “Wildcats” (12-1), are back-to-back Sectional Champions, and have won 75% of their games, with seven 20-win seasons, since first competing at the varsity level (1999). They’ll be led by Dwayne Evans (6-5, F), one of the top-rated players in the Illinois. The “Blackhawks” (6-7), with one of the toughest schedules in the state, started slowly but have won five in a row. They feature So. Juwan Starks (6-4, F), who has shown signs of future stardom. These “neighborhood rivals” have never met in the regular season.
