13th Annual “H. S. Hoops Showdown” Announced
Lisle, IL --- The Integrity Group today confirmed the pairings for next
season’s “High School Hoops Showdown”, along with the exciting changes
implemented in both format and content. The nationally known event, which
has averaged close to 5,000 fans, will return to the fabulous Sears Centre
Arena, in Hoffman Estates. The triple-header event is set for Saturday,
January 23, 2010.
In Game 1 (4:30 tip-off), Glenbard East takes on Algonquin-Jacobs in a
contest featuring two of the top point guards in the western suburbs. The
“Rams” (20-7), who lost to Bolingbrook in the Class 4A Glenbard West
regional championship game, return several starters, and are led by Jr. Zach
Miller (5-9, PG), a Daily Herald DuPage Country All-Area selection. The
“Golden Eagles” (24-4), the winningest Class 4A program over the last four
years (94-19), return three starters and are led by Jr. Mike Peterson (6-2,
PG). They have never met previously.
In Game 2 (6:30 tip-off) it’s the “rivals matchup” pitting Aurora Central
Catholic (24-4) against long-time Suburban Catholic Conference foe Marmion
Academy (13-14). The “Chargers”, the two-time defending SCC Champions, lost
to Class 3A runner-up, Oswego in the Oswego Regional championship game. They
will rebuild around Joey Guth (6-0, G). The “Cadets”, who upset ACC, 43-42
on Friday, February 13, will rebuild around two returning starters and
several other varsity members who saw considerable minutes this past season.
They’ll be led by Mark Peters (6-5, C).
Game 3 (8:30 tip-off) figures to be one of the top games of the season as
two state powers collide. Naperville-Neuqua Valley (31-2) winner of two
straight Upstate Eight Conference titles, will meet West Aurora (20-8). Both
return key starters and experienced backup players. The “Wildcats”,
back-to-back Sectional Champions, have won 75% of their games, with seven
20-win seasons, since first competing at the varsity level in 1999. They’re
lead by Sr. Dwayne Evans (6-5, F), one of the top players in the state. The
“Blackhawks”, who rebounded to win twenty games this past season, with just
one returning starter, are led by So. Juwan Starks (6-3, F).
Last year’s triple-header “showdown” included great teams and great players.
In Game 1, the “rivals game”, Hoffman Estates-Conant beat Barrington by a
score of 53-39. In Game 2, Algonquin-Jacobs toppled Schaumburg, minus star
Cully Payne, 62-48. In the finale, Westchester-St. Joseph, who was unranked
at the time, upset Chicago-North Lawndale College Prep, the defending Class
2A Champions and #1 ranked team, 66-61. Next year figures to maintain the
same high standards and quality match-ups fans have come to expect.
Tickets, priced at $12.00 for Adults and $10.00 for Students (18 and
under), will be available at the schools, Sears Centre Arena Box Office, by
